Corporate Officer

Bowen Island Municipality seeks a Permanent Full-time Corporate Officer. Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Corporate Officer is responsible for the management of the Municipality’s legislative functions, as well as other core administrative business areas and staff. This position is designated as Corporate Officer, as outlined in the Community Charter and the Local Government Act and will have a thorough working knowledge of the legislative, legal, and corporate responsibilities in BC local government legislation.  In addition to regular office hours, it will require attendance at evening Council meetings.

Experience and qualifications, we are seeking include:

  • Certification or course work in local government administration;
  • Preferred experience of 5 years progressive experience as a Corporate or Deputy Corporate Officer; and
  • Working knowledge of the Community Charter, Local Government Act and other pertinent legislation.

Consideration may be given to candidates who do not completely fulfil the above qualifications, but who can demonstrate a career interest in municipal government, who possess excellent organizational and communications skills and who have a proven record of transferrable skills and completion of other training programs. If selected, such a candidate will be expected to complete necessary training as required by the position.

Director of Engineering

Bowen Island Municipality seeks a Permanent Full-Time Director of Engineering.  The Director of Engineering is responsible for planning and maintenance of existing and new infrastructure. Municipal infrastructure includes seven water supply systems, water treatment plant, sewer treatment plant, roads, municipal parks and trail systems, beaches, docks, culverts, structures and solid waste disposal.  Long range infrastructure planning, sourcing of infrastructure, financing, and major contract management are additional key functions of this position.  Additionally, you will work closely with contractors, consultants, developers and business representatives, government officials and the public on public works and engineering and parks related matters.

To qualify, you will have a related civil engineering credentials plus three to five years in a supervisory or management role within a consulting and or municipal setting.  You have extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering as applied to the design, construction and maintenance of municipal engineering projects and services.

Casual Youth Worker Positions Available

Bowen Island Community Recreation is seeking Casual Youth Workers.  This is a part-time position supporting the Youth Services Coordinator in the running of the Bowen Youth Centre.  The Youth Worker primarily responds to the needs and interests of young people who frequent the Youth Centre by providing a variety of recreational activities for youth.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of one year experience working with youth in a recreational/drop-in setting.  Additionally, the candidate will have completed, or be in the process of completing, their post-secondary education in a related field.

Hours may range between 4-10 hours per week, covering Friday and/or Saturday night drop-ins. Read the complete job description.
