Temporary Full Time Administrative Assistant

Bowen Island Municipality seeks to fill a temporary full-time Administrative Assistant position covering an employee leave of 18 months, September 2022 – May 2024.

Hours of work are Monday - Friday, 8:30-4:30 at Bowen Island Municipal Hall. Some evening and / or weekend hours may be required with advance notice.

The Administrative Assistant is a dynamic position, interacting daily with the public, mayor and council, staff, and other stakeholders while managing tasks assigned by the Corporate Officer.

The ideal candidate has strong skills in organization & critical thinking, managing multiple tasks efficiently, communication, computer & technology literacy, and working collaboratively in a team environment.

On the job training will be provided, but demonstrated administrative experience in the above areas is strongly preferred.

Roads Crewperson
Permanent Full Time

Bowen Island Municipality seeks to fill an upcoming vacancy on the Roads & Parks Crew due to internal advancement in Public Works.

The Roads & Parks Crewperson is an outside labourer and will primarily be responsible for assisting with the maintenance of the Municipality’s roads, parks, beaches, and trail infrastructure. In addition, winter maintenance requirements will consist of snow clearing from roadways and applying anti-ice material amongst other duties.

This is a full time permanent position at 35 hours per week normally between 8:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday; these times may be adjusted to meet specific requirements.

Temporary Part Time Weekend Bylaw Patroller

Bowen Island Municipality seeks to fill a new temporary part time position supporting Bylaw Services.

The Weekend Bylaw Patroller works 14 hours per week on Saturdays & Sundays, with two weeks (70 hours) training immediately upon hiring. Hours worked will be between the hours of 8:30 am to 4:30 pm on weekends, with occasional evening work by mutual agreement. Training hours will be Monday - Friday, 8:30-4:30.

Duties include patrolling key areas and gaining compliance with municipal bylaws through education and direct enforcement, including but not limited to matters concerning parking and traffic; animal control; wharfs; and beaches, parks and trails. The Weekend Bylaw Patroller does not carry a Bylaw Services phone and will not be responding to public complaints called in over the weekend.

The ideal candidate for this position is friendly and outgoing, has excellent communication skills, is proficient with computers, is comfortable handling dogs, can work independently in all-weather conditions, and is able to perform light labour duties. The Weekend Bylaw Patroller must possess a valid BC driver’s licence and be able to operate a standard transmission vehicle.

Two full weeks of on-the-job training will be provided.

Casual Youth Worker

Bowen Island Community Recreation is seeking Casual Youth Workers.  This is an exciting part-time position supporting the Youth Services Coordinator in the running of the Bowen Youth Centre, and community programming for Bowen Island youth.  The Youth Worker primarily responds to the needs and interests of young people who attend Youth Centre programs by providing a variety of recreational activities for youth.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of one year experience working with youth in a recreational/drop-in setting, be somewhat familiar with adolescent developmental needs and stages, and have strong communication skills.

Hours may vary between 3-10+ hours per week, covering Friday and/or Saturday night drop-in and occasional community events or special programming.
