Residential Guest Accommodation (RGA) use has been permitted as a result of the Short Term Rental Policy #19-05. This policy was informed by over six months of engagement to identify community needs and an appropriate regulatory framework.
RGAs are being permitted on Bowen Island to contribute to the accommodation sector and local economy. They are being regulated to ensure operator accountability and to minimize impacts on residential neighbourhoods and long term housing.
Replacement of the Turf Field at Bowen Island Community School is scheduled to begin on August 10, 2020 and expected to finish by September 8. During construction, the field and basketball court will be closed, but all other outdoor areas at BICS will be open.

We recently announced that our application was successful in securing $7.9 million in funding provided from the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program’s Community, Culture and Recreation fund by the Government of Canada and the Province of British Columbia to build the Community Centre. These funds, along with Municipal reserves and fundraising to date, bring the amount raised for the project to $10.5 million. An additional $4 million is needed before construction can begin and as envisioned from the beginning, the municipality is seeking public support to borrow that $4,040,000. A referendum will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2020.

Emergency Support Services (ESS) is a community-based provincial response program that provides short term services for individuals and families affected by disasters. Services include food, clothing, lodging, family reunification and other specialized services, usually provided at an ESS Reception Centre.
