Community Centre Referendum

Bowen Island Municipality submitted a grant application to the Investing in Canada Infrastructure program in January, building a solid financial, economic, and social case for funding the Community Centre project. At the time, it was thought that an elector approval process (aka a referendum) would need to be held in May for the grant application to remain eligible.

We have since clarified with the grant program office that we are not required to obtain elector approval to remain eligible for funding. We can wait until after we receive the results of the application, which is expected to be announced in late fall, 2019.

Waiting to proceed with an elector approval process for Loan Authorization Bylaw No. 477,2019 means we won’t incur the administrative costs of holding a referendum before we receive information about the grant results.

You can read more about the Community Centre on the project website, or subscribe to our mailing list to receive updates.
