School Travel Planning

Three schools on Bowen Island are participating in the municipality’s School Travel Planning program, which aims to create a safe and comfortable environment for children to walk, bike, and roll to school. We want to hear from you regarding your school transportation choices.

If you are a family with children attending school on Bowen, please take a moment to complete this survey to measure our progress in School Travel Planning. The survey is open until December 13, 2019.

School Travel Planning (STP) is an important process to help get students to school safely while encouraging physical activity and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.  STP has been identified as a priority in the Transportation Plan.

Thank you to all the families that participated in the survey and classroom engagement activities!  An Action Plan is being drafted and will be brought back to the community for feedback, implementation and evaluation later this year.

How You Can Help

The Bowen Island Community School (BICS) participates in Bike to School Week each May.  The community can support bike riders by:

  • Watching for cyclists on the road
  • Leaving early to avoid rushing by cyclists
  • Giving a 1-metre berth when passing cyclists
