Water Main Flushing

Municipal water main flushing

Fall water main flushing will begin on Saturday, October 19, and will continue for 6 - 8 weeks.

As part of its regular water system maintenance program, the Municipality will flush water mains in Cove Bay, Bowen Bay, Hood Point, King Edward Bay and Tunstall Bay beginning Saturday, October 19 and continuing for 6 -8 weeks. Flushing will take place seven days a week from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm and will rotate through each neighbourhood. This procedure is necessary to remove sediment that gradually deposits in pipes, and it does not pose a health hazard.

Bluewater Park and Eagle Cliff water systems will not undergo flushing unless it is determined that there is an appropriate volume of water to flush without stressing the systems.

While the water is not being turned off during the flushing process, temporary water interruptions may occur and your water pressure could be low for periods of time. Every effort will be made to ensure that water quality is not affected, but some turbidity and higher than normal chlorine concentrations may be present for short periods of time. Running your tap briefly should clear this up.

Please check alerts or follow the BIM Facebook Page for daily updates. You may also notice signs in your neighbourhood while flushing is underway.

Please note:

  • The water mains in the areas of Snug Cove, Cates Hill and Village Square including Bowen Island Community School (BICS) and Bowen Island Children’s Centre (BCC) will be flushed on Saturday, October 19th, early in the morning so as to alleviate water interruption for BICS and BCC.
  • The water main of Artisan Square will be flushed early in the morning of Monday, October 21st and Tuesday, October 22nd.
